What If My Dog or Cat Isn’t Microchipped?
If a found pet is brought into us which is not microchipped and we are not able to identify the owner, the pet is still safe with us! Our animal care staff will post a photo of the found pet on our social media page with identifying information and cross-post to Lost Pets of the Hudson Valley. If your pet isn’t microchipped, check our social media page regularly to see if we post your pet. If we do post your pet, email us with photos and any vet records or vaccine certificates to help us confirm the pet belongs to you. We will contact you to reunite you with your pet! We hold found pets for 3 days, and then they are seen by our vet and made available for adoption. We do not euthanize lost pets; they are always safe with us!
PetCo Lost Love is a a free database created by PetCo to report, search, and share lost and found pets. Their database includes pets reported by individuals as well as thousands of shelter partners across the country. Create an account with them, then upload a photo of your lost or found pet. You can then share your lost pet to your community through social media, emails and text alerts. Print standardized lost pet flyers to help increase the chance neighbors have seen your pet in the area. Connect up with local shelters, including the Ulster County SPCA, when you submit your pet into the database. Receive an alert when someone recognizes your pet’s photo or finds and reports them through PetCo Lost Love. And when you find your lost pet, change their status to found in the database so everyone will know you and your best friend were safely reunited.
