Happy Endings

A Very Happy Ending
After spending almost two years at
our shelter Brody was recently adopted by a young couple, Shawn
and Erin. It was worth the wait to find the perfect match. Brody
loves Shawn and Erin as much they love him. Shawn describes him
as a loyal companion who is basically “attached to his
hip”. Shawn and Brody go running everyday and then Brody
goes everywhere with Shawn riding on a special platform that
Shawn built inside the cab of his pickup. Brody has a pool at
home and also enjoys going for a swim in the lake with Shawn
and Erin.
Brody is well known in Kingston. He makes
frequent visits to Lowes where he has become a celebrity. “Everybody
knows Brody” Shawn said. If Shawn drives anywhere near
Taco Bell, Brody will bark to let Shawn know that he wants
one of his favorite treats, a special order, just chicken on
a soft taco. When Shawn drives up to the window at MacDonald’s
everyone knows Brody’s order is a small vanilla ice cream
topped with a dog biscuit.
Brody had a close call recently. Shawn and
Erin rushed him to the emergency clinic late one Saturday night
after Brody collapsed. X-rays indicated that Brody needed immediate
surgery. Shawn and Erin were informed that Brody’s chances
didn’t look good. Surgery revealed a blockage from something
that Brody had probably swallowed long ago that caused bloat.
The surgery was successful and Brody made a complete recovery
thanks to a great vet and Shawn and Erin’s quick action.
Brody had to have a special diet of pureed chicken and rice
while he recovered from surgery. Erin said that their grocery
bill doubled buying special food and treats for Brody. “He
loves cheese and sits by the grill whenever we cook outside.
He knows he’ll get his treat” Erin said. Brody’s
lab report from the vet showed that all his results were perfect
except that he had high cholesterol! (Maybe he had too many
special treats.)
Shawn said that he has had lots of dogs,
but Brody tops them all. “He’s the smartest dog.
He knows all kinds of commands, only a few of which are sit,
shake one paw, the other paw, and high five. He loves to work.” He
will sit when Shawn throws an object and waits for the command “squirrel”.
Brody’s ears perk up whenever Shawn says “truck”.
Brody had nightmares when he was first adopted,
but now he sleeps well-sharing a bed with Shawn and Erin.

Thank you UCSPCA for finding me (us) a new home. I love

Please enjoy the photo of my precious bundle “Bobo”.
It is really hard to put into words how much joy this dog has
brought to our lives. He is a gentle, loving and playful dog.
He just went to the vet and he is a whopping 81 lbs. My vet says
he is perfect. Did I mention how much he loves cats!!!!
Thanks for everything,
Susan and Darrell

Dear SPCA,
I am writing to tell you how pleased my
husband Ken and I are to have Ranger in our lives. This summer
we adopted Ranger who is half Akita and half Great Pyrenees.
We were looking for a puppy that would be a good companion for
our three year old German Shepard, Avril. He was 43 pounds and
named Denali when he arrived at our home. He is now 70 pounds
and still growing at seven months. We went for training classes
and he is quite proficient and sit, down and come. We are still
practicing stay which is hard for him since he love to eat so
much. I have offered him banana and apple chunks and he eats
just about anything, which can be hazardous. We either keep an
eye on him or an ear open since he is still a puppy even though
he hardly looks like one. He went on vacation with us in the
Adirondacks and quickly learned to get in and out of the boat.
He loves to be with us and enjoys running around our fenced yard.
I don’t
think he’ll ever be fast
enough to catch a chipmunk, but that doesn’t keep him from
trying. We have been reading up on large breeds and make sure
to coax him rather than force him to do anything. He responds
to love with big sloppy kisses, so if you meet him have a paper
towel ready! Thank you for letting us adopt him.
Sincerely,
Lynn and Ken G.

Hey Guys,
Remember me “Snuffy” My new name is Shanti,
which means Peace, an that is exactly the way I feel, at peace.
I go for long walks in the woods. I love running in the snow
and going snowshoeing with my mama. I give and receive lots
of kisses with the kis and kittys. I eat real well, home cooked
meals, Yum. I chomp on lots of bones, play lots of ball and have
lots of playdates. I even have a little (and I mean little) girlfriend
down the road. I would love to jump into everyone’s arms
to show them just how much I love them, especially when they
are hugging. But I am working on holding back for not everyone
wants a big guy like me jumping on them. Anyway, thanks for
your good work and helping me find my new family.
Thank you for your Kindness. To all of you there, thank you
for bringing Shanti to us. He is a blessing to our family.

Tiggy and Gracie came in as brother and
sister. Gracie
was afraid of the other cats, and Tiggy as big brother stayed
by her side and protected her. They loved each other. We
wanted them to get adopted together and that is not always possible.
Luckily Donna K. was looking for two cats and Tiggy and Gracie
were recommended and now live very happily in a wonderful home. |
